Year In Review 2024 with Geneco

2024 has been a year of collective efforts and shared purpose, as we joined hands with like-minded partners—both existing and new—to rally support for causes that truly matter.

Since our beginnings in 2018, Geneco has been guided by our purpose to #PowerTheChange for good, both in social impact and sustainability. From marine conservation to amplifying stories of resilience and hope, our journey this year has been shaped by a shared commitment to building a more sustainable and inclusive future.

As Singapore’s No. 1 Residential Electricity Retailer, we are deeply grateful for the trust of over 170,000 households, the unwavering support from our partners, and the community for joining us in driving positive change.

As the year comes to a close, let’s take a moment to celebrate the milestones we have achieved together.

Embarking on a journey towards sustainability this Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is always a festive season for children to learn more about the values of gratitude as they receive blessings for the year ahead.

This year, we hoped to inspire the next generation to extend these virtues by nurturing an appreciation and responsibility for our marine environment, which is home to over 250 species of hard corals and more than 100 species of reef fish. Through #VoyageToProsperity, our Chinese New Year initiative, we spotlighted native corals and supported the National Parks Board’s 100k Corals Initiative, calling for greater community involvement in conserving this vital ecosystem.

For this initiative, we partnered with Marshall Cavendish Education (MCE), and co-created the ‘Voyage To Prosperity’ Game together with 10-year-old Gabriel Chin. This game was shortlisted in MCE’s Summer Coding Hackathon 2023, themed ‘Code the Ocean’, where students aged 9 to 12 worldwide were invited to create their own game projects from scratch to raise awareness about marine conservation.

With over 93,000 gameplays, we are grateful for the overwhelming support in our aim to #PowerTheChange.

We also collaborated with NParks’ Garden City Fund to illuminate the beauty of coral reefs on our limited-edition red packets, made from FSC-certified paper, to inspire Singaporeans to discover the vibrant mosaic of oceanic biodiversity beneath our waters. Each of these red packets even included a lesser-known fact about our native coral reefs and how vital they are to marine life.

With great support from the public, we brought back our Used Red Packet Recycling initiative for the fourth consecutive year, encouraging everyone to play a part simply by recycling their used and excess red packets.

Besides our returning partners, CRU, IUIGA, OTO, REFRASH and Wisma Atria, we are elated to have CapitaLand malls, PAP Action for Green Towns and SG Recycle joining us this year.

With the support of 105 recycling partners across the island, and through the collective efforts of Singaporeans, we are very heartened to collect over 3,037kg of old red packets for recycling, which were sent to SG Recycle for a second lease of life.

Empowering a Greener Future with #GenecoFantas6

As we celebrated our 6th anniversary, we hoped to continue forging meaningful paths toward a sustainable tomorrow.

This year also marks the fourth consecutive year of our Plant-A-Tree event, where we planted another 50 trees at East Coast Park on Earth Day (22 April), contributing to our city’s green canopy, as part of our commitment to plant 250 trees in 5 years under NParks’ #OneMillionTrees movement.

In celebration of this joyous occasion, we encouraged everyone to take charge of sustainable living with a special 6th Anniversary promotion for Power Eco Add-on, Singapore’s First & Only green add-on for an electricity plan. New Geneco customers could enjoy the first 6 months free when they opted into the Power Eco Add-on, while existing Geneco customers who opted in or upgraded could also enjoy this meaningful offer.

Through our continued green efforts, we aim to inspire everyone to contribute to Singapore’s vision of a greener, more sustainable City in Nature, as we empower individuals to make a difference.

Powering change through music with ‘here.sunrise x sunset’

In commemoration of Singapore’s 59th birthday, we turned the spotlight on mental wellness with the ‘here.sunrise x sunset’ initiative. In collaboration with local singer-songwriter Sherman Zhuo, we debuted ‘endless shine’ – a song that hopes to inspire Singaporeans to let music be the heartbeat of our lives, and Power the Change from within.

In partnership with Beyond the Label, a nationwide movement co-led by the National Council of Social Service and TOUCH Community Services addressing mental health stigma, we invited everyone to support the initiative by pressing play for good – each stream of ‘endless shine’ on Spotify or YouTube counting as a pledge to support this initiative.

As part of the initiative, we held an experiential pop-up at Bugis Junction, where participants could immerse themselves in the song’s lyrics under a sound dome and enjoy a therapeutic escape, all while watching captivating scenes from the ‘endless shine’ music video. We also gave away a limited edition Geneco tote bag to attendees who pressed play for good and voted for their favourite lyrics at the pop-up.

In collaboration with the youth music community, Sofar Singapore, we hosted a secret gig, inviting music lovers from across the nation to join us for an intimate jam session. Participants were treated to an exclusive up-close performance by Sherman Zhuo, including the first-ever live rendition of ‘endless shine.’

We are very heartened that the song’s message resonated deeply, reaching over 1,796,000 streams, over 56,000 votes, and sparking conversations about mental wellness across the nation.

Creating new Chapters with ‘Till the End of Time’

This festive season, we invited all Singaporeans to join us in celebrating the most precious gift that will last till the end of time – Family. Through this initiative, we hoped to show how important family support is in helping ex-offenders and inmates turn their lives around by breaking the cycle of incarceration.

Together with New Life Stories, a non-profit organisation dedicated to preventing intergenerational incarceration, we hoped to inspire all to be part of this initiative and help to rebuild family connections despite their situation, to give their children a fairer start to life.

Together, we co-created the book ‘Love Beyond the Walls: Till the End of Time’.

Written by inmates under New Life Stories’ programme, illustrated by former inmate artists from CANVAS, and supported by Yellow Ribbon Project, this book is a heartfelt collection of 10 stories that convey love and hope from the incarcerated parents to their children.

We encouraged everyone to do good this season by purchasing ‘Love Beyond the Walls: Till the End of Time’, with 100% of proceeds going to New Life Stories’ to support their Family Strengthening Programme. Three preview e-stories from the book were also available for download online, with every download signifying a pledge to our initiative.

Watch this video where we feature one of the writers of the book, and discover the true meaning of family, second chances, and the moments in life that lead you back home.

The campaign extended beyond the pages, as we held our immersive giant storybook installations at Jurong Regional Library, Queenstown Public Library and Sembawang Public Library. Local celebrity, Kelly Latimer, also joined us for an interactive storytelling session at Jurong Regional Library, bringing these stories to life.

As families headed down to Orchard Road to revel in the festive lights of ‘Christmas on A Great Street 2024’ and shop for holiday gifts, we invited them to visit our ‘Till the End of Time’ bookshop pop-up, to buy the ‘Love Beyond the Walls: Till the End of Time’ book or a set of limited-edition Yellow Ribbon 20th Anniversary Hope Bears, where 100% of sales proceeds would go directly to the respective non-profit organisations.

To spread the festive joy, we had a free photobooth where families could capture memories and take home their very own ‘Till the End of Time’ photo bookmarks as keepsakes, while also giving away a limited edition Yellow Ribbon 20th Anniversary foldable tote bag to those who downloaded the preview e-stories.

With the public’s support of over 25,000 pledges, we also donated $15,000 to the Family Strengthening Programme by New Life Stories to further their efforts to preventing intergenerational incarceration.

Turning the page to 2025

As we close the chapter on 2024, we are deeply grateful for the unwavering support and enthusiastic participation of our partners, communities and families in our initiatives. These achievements are not just milestones—they are stepping stones toward a more sustainable and inclusive future.

Let’s continue to #PowerTheChange and shape a brighter and more meaningful 2025 together.

Meanwhile, take a moment to enjoy this video that captures the highlights and achievements we shared in 2024.
